Laurent Shinar

Laurent Shinar is an up-and-coming photography talent that we’ve been lucky enough to work with recently.

Here’s his story so far…

Hiya the name is Laurent Shinar, I’ve been photographing professionally since June 2010 with my first job coming from a skateboard clothing company called Dirtball (based in the US), since then I have stayed very true to my skateboarding roots working with various skateboard brands such as Osiris Shoe Co (uk branch) and Urban Kreation Clothing. Though skateboarding is not the only area in which i have been working in, I am also working with an up and coming band called Fauntelroy and am working closely with Bomber Music Publishing, photographing various new talent.

My work is heavily influenced by many photographers ranging from the classics such as Irving Penn to the newer and edgier work of Yoon Sul (Thrasher magazine). I was recently short-listed for the Professional Photographer of the Year – Student Category hosted by Professional Photographer Magazine. I am always excited about the subjects I shoot commercially and when undertaking personal projects, I feel that the variety allows me to keep my work fresh and exciting and I hope to only better myself as time goes on. Please feel free to email me if you have any questions and be sure to check out my website!!!

Laurent_Shinar Luke_Jarvis Photographer of the year
The shortlist image, this was one of the very first skateboarding images that i ever took, who knew it would become something!

Laurent Shinar Luke Jarvis
This shot of Luke Jarvis (see http://mpora.com/andyjarv/) was taken at meanwhile gardens, a powerful and expressive skater I was looking to capture both his style and flair.

Laurent_Shinar_Luke_Jarvis_
Another banger from Luke Jarvis (see http://mpora.com/andyjarv/) this shot took a lot of tries to get right as it is such a fast move and with the constant pressure of the ever looming security guard waiting to move you along it was truly a difficult image to capture.

Laurent Shinar lifestyle
A shot taken at a working men’s club for a personal project. I was looking to capture the juxtaposition between the roughness of the gentleman’s hands versus his gentle nature in the embrace of the dance.

Laurent Shinar band photography
A shot taken for the band Fauntleroy using a wireless flashgun and a long exposure to allow for the movement of the merry-go-round to be seen. This has to be one of my favourite shoots to date, a great bunch of guys living a very surreal life going from the extreme highs of performing and then crashing back to normal life, so in this image I was looking to show the surreality of the group.
